What We Offer

What we offer

We start by asking you to complete as fully as possible the Runner Questionnaire. This gives us a holistic picture of where you are as a runner. We will follow the questionnaire with any further questions that we might have, ie. your reply is not full enough; or where it creates a need for further enquiries. We think it is valuable to spend this time at the outset, so that the programme starts off from a fully informed position. Ideally we like the induction to include a face to face and a chance to actually watch you running, if that is practical. This usually lasts between 1 1/2 and 2 hours  and is backed up by a through email debrief shortly afterwards.

We will usually ask you to identify an event at least 12 weeks later, and ideally around 26 weeks or longer, as a personal goal, and will, whatever your level of fitness, agree with you a realistic target for that event. We will also ask you to identify whether there are any competitive events that you have entered as milestones, and will suggest suitable options if you wish. This provides the framework around which we structure a monthly programme.  We believe a monthly cycle is about the right duration. Much longer than a month, one is giving out details so far in advance that events in the intervening period may force some changes to it. Much shorter than a month, the period lends itself less well to including all the key elements of training, and less chance to demonstrate some trend of progress in the period.

We will offer a choice of feedback and contact options, mainly by email and phone, and also a fuller review after either 3 or 6 months depending on individual preferences and circumstances. (We choose not to set a ‘quota’ of email contact that we limit you to, but reserve the right to review this individually). We believe that each athlete is an experiment of one and welcome feedback on how you rate our coaching style so we can constantly seek to improve. We know that in the real world runners will occasionally be injured or ill. Experience suggests that this is often when a coach is most helpful, advising, strictly in the context of any medical advice that the runner receives and shares, a suitable cross training programme so that the fitness built up through running can largely be maintained by alternative training methods.

We coach athletes all over the UK, so we are very used to working with athletes who are not able to meet us for regular one to one sessions. For those who do seek regular fact to face time, David Chalfen is based in London, whilst Dave Newport is based in the Cotswolds. As a guide, prices are as follows:

Induction including face to face, feedback from questionnaire and detailed email debrief  - £79 (including £50 deposit payable at induction)

Monthly Programme (Including feedback) £47

6 months for £245 ( a 15% saving when paid in advance)
