7 January 2012 Middlesex Cross Country Championships
At the not overly idyllic setting of Wormwood Scrubs playing fields. It’s the only time a cross country event requires me to drive from my vaguely leafy suburb in towards central London, but what the venue lacks in undulating pine forests it makes up for with rock buns and an excellent lemon drizzle cake. This happens to be my daughter’s first ever spectating at a cross country event and she seems more engrossed in her tuna baguette than in the minutiae of Highgate Harriers or Harrow Athletics Club’s team scores. Kids today.
